UNMUTED (directed and showrun by Dena), a project from Without Exception Films, was selected as a Clinton Global Initiative 2024 Commitment to Action. 1 in 3 women globally will experience gender based violence in their lifetime. With interviews led by Constance Wu, Marie Avgeropoulos, and Torrey Devitto, audiences will learn about the complex socio-cultural factors that lead to people becoming victims of gender based violence, including Child Marriage, FGM/C, and Acid Attacks - along with the non-traditional solutions that individuals and non-government organizations are using to protect women and girls. May 2, 2022 Dena is directing pieces for all of the non-profits & NGOs that the documentary Unmuted focuses on. Roll Up Your Sleeves is a grass roots organization started by Michelle Borth dedicated to those who are suffering the physical scars from mental illness including self-harm, NSSID, and suicide attempts. Oct 16, 2021 The prestigious Roy W Dean Film Grant has named Unmuted a "Hot Film in the Making". Dena is directing/writing this project which is currently in production for Without Exception Films. Oct 1, 2021 Geek Vibes News has officially dropped the trailer and poster for the drug fueled musical The Rumperbutts. We produced this a couple of years ago, and are thrilled to partner with Global Digital Releasing to get it out into the world. Starring Succession's Arian Moayed, Blue Blood's Vanessa Ray, Silicon Valley's Josh Brener, and indie music stalwarts Mates of State, The Rumperbutts will be available on all digital platforms starting November 19! Sept 10, 2021 Another accolade for the sci-fi/thriller pilot, Doomsday Clock, came in as the Austin Film Festival selected it as a second rounder. Sept 1, 2021 My Missing Sister, written by Dena Hysell-Cornejo & Isak Borg, has officially wrapped production and moved into post-production. August 18, 2021 The Stowe Story Lab has named one of Dena's sci-fi/thriller pilots, Doomsday Clock, as an official selection for their fall retreat. She will be spending a focused week in beautiful Stowe, VT with a select group of writers and mentors concentrating on a rewrite. July 15, 2021 The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a hybrid of live and online this year, and Dena Hysell-Cornejo was brought on as the Creative Consultant/Film Director for the project My House written by Charlotte Lubert. Dena will help to bring this unique filmed play that traces 80 years of a building's history through it's famous inhabitants (Charlie Chaplin, Carole Lombard, and others) to life. Dena directed the filmed version while Charlotte simultaneously directed the live version creating a unique experience for the live and online viewer. Tickets are now available. April 1, 2021 The prolific production team at The Cartel hired Dena Hysell-Cornejo & Isak Borg to write a contained thriller based on a true story. March 20, 2021 Dena Hysell-Cornejo was hired to re-write Unearthed, a character driven social justice/gender identity film by Liv Scott. It is an experimental piece combining live action and multiple styles of animation which will go into production in Q3 2021. March 15, 2021 Dena Hysell-Cornejo & Isak Borg's script Bunny & Clive advanced to the Quarterfinalist Round of the Screencraft Screenwriting Fellowship. December 15, 2020 After 8 weeks in rural Uganda and Kenya, the Without Exception Films team flew back to Los Angeles to begin post production. More shooting is scheduled throughout Q1 2021 as the editing process begins. Without Exception Films is highlighting some of the people and NGOs the team worked with on their Instagram feed. October 15, 2020 One of the many films that got delayed this year due to COVID, Dena Hysell-Cornejo's next feature she is directing/writing, a documentary about the non-profits working to end gender based violence in Uganda and Kenya, is finally in production. Without Exception Films, a documentary company focused on stories of female empowerment, hired Dena and the all-female production team to spend the next 2 months on location for their first round of shooting the people doing this important work on the ground. August 15, 2013 With the production team now complete, Rumpus Room can finally announce their next feature, The Sound of Magic. Award winning Tisch alums Basil Mironer and Chris Broe are teaming up to co-direct this magical coming-of-age piece. Principal photography is set for Oct. 1 in the Los Angeles area. July 25, 2013 Rumpus Room was brought on to produce the indie film Rumperbutts, starring Mates of State and directed by Marc Brener. Marc made a creative splash last year with his short "Say it Ain't Solo" starring Malin Ackerman, Jason Alexander, and Christopher Lloyd.
